Packed in the Bag
I was inactive for some months. I thought I will not go back to blogging world but I do believe that once a blogger will always be a blogger, so I’m back.
Having a new work, a really new line of work, takes a lot of my time and energy. I thought I couldn’t make it but with the encouragement and push from my colleagues, I made it.
Funny but true, since I started working with my new work, 4 essential items are always present in my bag. My
sunglasses,
sun protection,
after the sun care protection and
first aid kits. Working at the site is really hard especially when it’s hot. Though it’s humid, I still wear sun protection and after the sun because I got burned during my first few weeks. You might be wondering why I include first aid kits, well I just want to be ready especially for pain relievers.
To my blogging friends, please forgive me for being out of action.

Dubai Kilo
New residents of Dubai gain between 6 and 12 kilograms on average in their first year here, according to a fitness instructor at a local gym.
One thing i really notice here is the lifestyle. Diners and restaurants scattered around here and the food is cheap. People who are tired from 8-9 hours work tend to eat alot during the night. Some prefer to take out food rather than to cook their own meals.
This is for real. I myself experienced weight problem. I gained a lot during my first year here and it keeps going up and up and up till 75kg. Last year, I decided to take a diet pill and return to my jogging regimen. The diet pill i took makes me loose my appetite so I turned to fresh fruit juices. My jogging habits every night continue until I lose 15kg and it feels good to being light again. Now, I just maintain my food intake and continue my jogging.Labels: General, Health, Tips

Long Weekend
The private sector in the UAE will get a one-day holiday on Thursday, July 31, to mark Isra Wal Meraj - Prophet Mohammad’s (PBUH) ascension to heaven - it was announced on Sunday.
Tomorrow is a public holiday, and friday and saturday are weekend here....yehey! that mean's long weekend here in UAE.
But according to newspapers, it will be hot and humid long weekend which the temperature will range from 41 to 43C for the next three days. Hmmm, it means we must stay indoor and live couch potato style again.Labels: Event, General, Life on edge

79 people arrested for indecency at Dubai beaches
Hmmm, so the arrest of people for PDA (Public Display of Affection) is increasing. I'm wondering if these people knew the law here or they just ignore it but ignorance is not an excuse. One thing they should know, they are in an Arab country so they must respect the rules and regulation regarding the decency act in this place.
The police were also urging people to report immediately if any indecency act they witnesses.Labels: General, Life on edge

Where else to go?
Dubai municipality announces the fourth phase of smoking ban in public places, this time in billiards or snookers hall. I can understand banning smoking in internet cafes or e-games hall but billiards? oh my...
Restaurants, malls, public areas like hospitals area, family park, office building have already implemented the ban of smoking. It is a good move from the municipality and i adhere on every rule, but banning in billiards area...well, what to do!Labels: General, Health, Life on edge

Check your winning smile
As a smoker, I am aware of the nicotine that building up in my teeth. So aside from being a responsible smoker to other’s (non-smoker), I take good care of my teeth too. I make sure that I visit my dentist regularly even it costs me too much and way too far from my place.
Since my company got engaged in discount dental plans last year, I save a lot of money and it’s a hassle free using the plan. The discount dental plans I have is a member of almost dental clinics here. I was able to find a dental clinic close to my home, accessible anytime and worry free from traffics. With dental discount plan in my hand, I can say that I still possess a set of white teeth, free from cavity and no bad breath.
To all out there, don’t take for granted your teeth, it’s your key for a winning smile.Labels: General, Health, Tips

It's about time for taxi inspectors
TransAD, the Centre for Regulation of Transport by Hire Cars in Abu Dhabi will dispatch taxi inspectors to monitor the long wait of taxis. It will ensure residents waiting time to hire a taxi. It good to know that TransAD quickly resolve residents problem on taxis especially this time, where temperature reaches 40-45C.
Residents can also file complaints or suggestion to some rude taxi drivers.
Thanks to TransAD!!!Labels: General, Life on edge

New place, new furnitures
At last we were able to move to our new place. My sister, her husband and I were able to find a new flat. We need a bigger space because my sister is pregnant. She will buy baby things soon.
Since it's a new flat we decided to buy new furnitures and give our old ones to some friends. My sister is also planning to buy a new bedroom items since single bed is not enough for them anymore. It is really good to have a new place of our own with our new things.
Whew! now I love going home early and be in our cosy flat.Labels: Family, General

DAY called it like that!

-drawing by denise
DAY likes to hang-out at Starbucks, bugging my sister for frapuccino. DAY shares secrets and jokes. DAY are helping each other. DAY are my nieces (Denise, Aileen and Ynnah) …and I am glad that DAY are close friends as well as cousins.
I just want to share this info. I was with them growing-up but now that they started having crushes and undergo life’s difficulty at school, I am not there to guide them. I just hope that they will still treat me as the coolest Aunt they could ever have...hehehe.Labels: Family, General

Helping Out Loud
Weather here starts to become bad. It’s been dusty, windy and zero visibility for a week now. It’s good that classes are closed for summer to protect children’s health as well as vacationers.
Some of my colleagues started packing their things and off to their vacations. The management allowed everyone at the office who wants to take their leave vacations for at least 2 weeks. From my previous post, I wrote about them seeking my help regarding cheap hotels in different destinations like France, London, Sydney, Birmingham, New York, Miami and so on. Most of my colleagues who asked my advice materialized their plans especially those who look for Hotels Paris and Hotels Sydney, but some did not push through on their vacations outside UAE and opted to stay here and explore Dubai and Fujairah.
On the other hand, I was so happy helping out another friend for the last minute reservation. Olive was given a short notice by her family to meet them at Phuket. She was so worried for she was not prepared to take a vacation because of budget issue. It’s good that I was able to refer her to some Cheap Hotels in Phuket and she couldn’t believe it. Tomorrow night she will fly there and I could get reviews from her.
This site really helps me a lot. I could personally confirm that. I will tell soon on my next post.

Dust besiege UAE
It’s been a week now since dusts besiege the whole emirates as well other Gulf countries. Somehow it’s better to hide from the sun but unfortunately it’s worst because breathing is a big problem. Dust particles remains in the air and it could attack one’s health. Allergies start to attack people especially me who has dust allergy. I’m sneezing for a couple of days now, others start to have a skin allergy and I’m worried for my pregnant sister.
According to the weatherman here, it will last until two more days, meaning we have to remain indoors during weekend.

Killer Inspections
When I went home last February, the second important thing I visited was the resort house. I want to make sure if the rest house were still intact. The fact that the house is made of bamboo and the rainy season hit the area, I make sure that all the foundations were still sturdy. I love that house thou its small, my dad left a loving memory in that place.
First, I check for any signs of termites and then my mom engaged the termite killer expert services. I was really so happy for all the termites guide I learned. Though the resort was still in perfect condition after the termite inspection, I still ask the team to spray the house.
I will do anything to keep that haven safe and i will not let anyone not even termites destroy that place.Labels: Family, General, vacation

USD1840 for a 30 days visit
Coming August 2008, UAE increases the visit visa fee from $386 to $1840 for a 30 days period only. There were speculations that with the new set of rules, the ministry wants to slow down the movement of visitors here and to stop expats bringing their relatives.
I somehow agree on that new rule because I admit, that there are some people here are using the visit visa as another means of easy money. They will lure their friends and relatives for a greener pastures work, charge them a higher price for the visit visa and it's a cold cash for that person. In the end, you will feel pity on the victim. Though, i knew that alot of people will got shock on this rule, but what to do, that's their rule.
Aside from that, another new rule was implemented. Only UAE nationals can bring their friends here. Hmmm, i dont believe this!Labels: General, Life on edge

Do you have the right FACE?
If you think you have the right FACE, then you are IN.
Dubai will open a new nightclub who have a face controlled recognition to allow people inside their club. Meaning if your face matches their system you are IN, if not better luck next time.
It's my first time to hear a bar like Club Envy. Hmmm, it has cons and pros on it's rule, for sure people here will react. I will wait on that...Labels: General, Life on edge

No PDA Please
PDA (Public Display of Affection)
Women get jail and face deportation for kissing on Dubai public beach.
This morning, Gulf news article got my attention on two women (a Lebanese and Bulgarian) who got jailed and face deportation for hugging and kissing on public beach. Tsk! Tsk! Tsk!
Dubai is one of the seven Emirates (state) of UAE. Even though Dubai is being develop and promoted as the main tourist spot in the UAE, the strict rule on public display of affection like kissing and hugging is a BIG taboo here.
UAE is an Islamic country though they permit other religions here, Expats who are working or visiting must follow that rule or face the consequences. Expats must keep in their mind to be aware on their adopted country, their rules and regulations and respect it.
This adage enters in my mind ‘When in Rome, be a Roman!’

The Right Treatment
I witness a shocking moment in my life. Little did my brother know that I saw him sniffing marijuana during his wife’s wake. I couldn’t tell my parents or my sisters what I saw so I kept quiet.
At first, I understand my brother, to lose a wife and left with 3 kids. So I continue my silence and pray that my brother would not lead to Drub Rehab.
I remember my uncle who got addicted to marijuana until my grandmother decided to put him under Marijuana Addiction Treatment. When my uncle was released, everything went well with him but the ordeal of my grandma started again when friends of my uncle started giving him cocaine. My uncle got worst because he started stealing money from my grandma or sometimes sell appliances from their house. My grandma got alarmed and called the police. He was put under Cocaine Addiction Treatment.
After a year, my uncle was released and my grandma decided to sell their house and left the place to avoid my uncle’s friend.
Everything went well with them as well as with my brother.Labels: Family, General, Health, Life on edge

IT Summit & Construction 360 Trade Show
For the past years I have been active on attending events here whether for IT or any related field in Construction. My career path diversified since I arrived here. From IT software programmer, hardware & network admin, AutoCAD, and now more on health and safety environment coordinator. As a prerequisite to newly acquired knowledge, my company urges me to widen my horizon. So aside from reading materials, I also engage myself by attending events or seminars related.
Last year I attended the Middle East IT security summit. Aside from the talks and workshop, what attracted me most in the exhibition were the state of the art trade show booths. The Pipe and Drape system used on every booth was really awesome and the backdrops draperies were very colorful. You can tell from the banner stands that the organizer really work hard for the event. Even the reception area had a calm façade with matching attractive table skirts welcoming the attendees.
Now that the Construction 360 event is near, I am excited to attend the summit workshop and to check how the organizer and sponsors will present their products.Labels: Event, General, Life on edge

The Adventure continues...of Indiana Jones
When I heard that Spielberg, Lucas and Ford were filming the fourth installment of Indiana Jones, I was thrilled about it. I admit that I am a big fan of Indy. I like the adventures and stunts and I was thankful that the local channel here is airing the past three movies. I don’t get tired watching it over and over.
But there’s a big question that lingers on my mind. Can Harrison Ford excite the audience on his stunts and roles now that he’s 65 years old? Is it bad news for moviegoers for an action-adventure pack movie?
Well, let's wait and watch the movie on its worldwide release on May 22.Labels: General, Life on edge, Movies

Disastrous Earthquake
Another breaking news from China that really struck the world, a disastrous calamity hit the province of Sichuan China.
As of today the death toll rises from the powerful earthquake that hit the province. Rescuers even appeal to the public for donations of equipment like hammers and shovel to help stranded/buried people from the landslides.
It was so disheartening watching the news that I remember the same scenario that happened in our country before in Baguio. It’s good to know that Chinese community here in Dubai made an effort to help the victims. They even offered prayers and lightning of candles in the street.
To all of you, let’s pray for the departed soul caused by an earthquake in Sichuan, China.
Let's pause for a while and offer a silent pray.Labels: General, Life on edge

Dubai Police on dealing with special needs people
I read from the local newspaper today that the authorities, especially Dubai Police is conducting a workshop to their personnel on how to deal with special needs people.
This is a good way of supporting people with special needs and treating them with respect in the society. Another positive point for the Authorities to organize such workshop, and this will serve as a model to the society.
If only our local police back home will do the same, to become a role model of the society, I guess our country will improve.Labels: General, Life on edge
